American Optical General

The US Army Air Corps D-1 Sunglasses, first contracted by the US military in 1935 and made by American Optical, were the original aviator style sunglasses. The General is the natural successor to this iconic design, with a more bona fide heritage than any other aviator style of sunglasses.

Exhibiting the classic tear-drop shape, the General features slightly convex lenses to afford excellent protection from the sun. This has made them a staple among American fighter pilots. The General features all-metal frames and all-metal hinges that give it a feeling of substance, heft and quality that you just do not get from other aviator sunglasses.
