The Platatac SPUR Tropical Pack – PLATATEX™ Edition takes a proven hot-climate pack and rebuilds it in a lighter, more technical fabric platform.
Trusted for tropical and high-humidity environments, the SPUR Tropical is built around our distinctive X-Frame suspension system, designed to hold the pack off the back to improve airflow, evaporation and climate control when moving under load. It also helps push weight into the hips and lower back, reducing shoulder strain during long periods of wear. The removable shoulder straps feature Airmesh padding, while the padded waist strap can be stowed away neatly when not required.
What sets this edition apart is the use of PLATATEX™ in Ranger Green — a premium 185gsm, 3-layer technical laminate similar in concept to Gore-Tex™, normally found in high-end outdoor equipment rather than military load carriage. It offers excellent weather resistance, durability and comfort, while being lighter than traditional pack fabrics, reducing overall carried weight without compromising field performance.
This version is also produced using salvaged offcuts from our Burrow Bivi Bag production, repurposing high-grade technical material that would otherwise go to waste. The result is a pack with the same proven SPUR Tropical capability, but with a lighter build, advanced material performance, and a reduced environmental footprint.
The pack provides a total internal capacity of approximately 55.8 litres, giving it enough room for sustainment loads, mission equipment, extra layers, and overnight gear.
The main compartment offers 34 litres (2075ci) of storage and is sized for larger mission-essential items such as radios, batteries, MOE tools, wet weather gear, ECW gear, or overnight sustainment kit. Inside, it includes three zippered mesh pockets for organisation, plus a hydration sleeve and hanger to suit a 3L bladder. Hydration and cable routing is handled through two covered ports at the top of the pack.
A secondary compartment adds a further 8.29 litres (505ci), ideal for extra clothing, panel markers, admin items, or other quick-access equipment, and includes two additional zippered mesh pockets for smaller items such as strobes, cyalume, and loose essentials.
On the front, a flat zippered pocket provides storage for slimmer items like maps, notebooks, snacks, or other small admin gear that you want accessible without digging through the main load.
Externally, the pack features four large side pockets, each with a capacity of 3.38 litres (206ci). These are sized well for issue ration packs, 1 litre flasks, water bottles, or similarly sized mission items. Behind these external pockets is an open channel that allows you to stow longer items, such as tripods, poles, or other elongated equipment, without compromising access to the main pack body.
The result is a pack that carries well in the heat, manages weight properly, and gives you real-world organisation for the sort of equipment this pack is actually used for.
